The PRC Ministry of Public Security reported that a review of the State Supervisory Committee is underway regarding Men Hongwei.Former president
of Interpol, Deputy Minister of Public Security of the People's
Republic of China, Meng Hongwei, is suspected of bribery and other
crimes. As stated in a report on Monday published by the
Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, an audit
is being conducted on him.
"Zhao
Kechzhi, a member of the PRC State Council, head of the party committee
of the PRC Ministry of Public Security, reported on the morning of
October 8 that Meng Hongwei was suspected of taking bribes and
committing other crimes. He is being checked by the State Supervisory
Committee," the document says .
The
Party Committee of the Department decided to set up a special working
group that will investigate the corruption suspects Meng Hongwei. "In
order to fully implement the requirements of the Central Committee of
the Communist Party of China, a special working group will be organized
which, in accordance with the procedure established by law, will
investigate suspects in receiving bribes of employees jointly with Meng
Hongwei," the document says.
“The
meeting [of the party committee] demanded to thoroughly investigate
cases of bribery on the part of Meng Hongwei. Suspicions of violation of
the law caused serious harm to the cause of the party and public
security organs. It is necessary to draw a serious lesson and draw the
necessary conclusions,” the ministry’s report says
On
Sunday, late in the evening, the Chinese authorities officially
confirmed the detention of 64-year-old Meng Hongwei, who also holds the
position of deputy minister of public security of the PRC and
disappeared more than a week ago in China. The
CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, in a brief statement
circulated around midnight, informed that the official was “suspected of
violating the law” and the relevant authorities are conducting an
inspection in his regard. The location of the detainee and other details are not disclosed.
