The
German magazine Focus told about the attempts being made by Great
Britain to create an opponent to the “most modern battle tank in the
world” - the Russian T-14 tank based on the Armata universal tracked
platform.
The
magazine calls the T-14 "the most modern battle tank in the world," and
notes that due to its appearance, Western countries have begun
developing an "equal opponent", modernizing their outdated weapons
fleet, reports RIA Novosti.
So,
in early October, the British defense concern BAE Systems presented a
prototype of the Black Night tank, which was developed based on the
Challenger 2 combat vehicle, the first samples of which rolled off the
assembly line in 1994, the newspaper notes.
The
article says that the developers are planning to improve the combat
characteristics of the Challenger 2 with the help of the installation of
a night vision system and a new defense complex, which is expected to
recognize and eliminate enemy anti-tank missiles.
At
the same time, it is not planned to create a new weapon for the tank,
although, as the newspaper notes, it is considered obsolete and its
ability to penetrate the frontal armor of the “Almaty” is in doubt.
As
a result, the author of the article came to the conclusion that in
order to create a worthy opponent for “Almaty”, Western countries still
need “certain time”.
Recall that the UK plans to upgrade tanks Challenger 2 became known in late September.
