In the United States, they propose to abandon the Treaty on Medium and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF). On such actions insists presidential adviser on national security, John Bolton, writes The Guardian.
According
to the newspaper, the final decision has not yet been made, as several
employees of the State Department and the Pentagon oppose the
initiative. Scheduled for Monday discussion of the situation decided to postpone.
It
is noted that Bolton is also in favor of blocking the extension of the
treaty on the reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms,
which was concluded between the US and Russia in 2010.
According
to the treaty, countries should reduce nuclear warheads,
intercontinental ballistic missiles and other strategic weapons.
The
INF Treaty (on medium and shorter-range missiles) does not allow the
parties to have ground-based ballistic missiles and cruise missiles with
a range of 500 to 5.5 thousand kilometers. The document was signed in 1987. Russia and the United States regularly accuse each other of violating its conditions.
