The European Parliament adopted on Thursday a resolution in which it expressed "very serious concern over the extremely unstable security situation in the Sea of Azov, which could easily escalate into open conflict." At the same time, the EP authorized the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy "to declare, in agreement with the member states, that sanctions against Russia will be strengthened if the conflict in the Sea of Azov intensifies." He also proposes expanding the monitoring area of the OSCE special task force to a “new zone of tension in the Sea of Azov”.
"The resolution of the European Parliament on the Sea of Azov is absolutely false. It seems that Strasbourg ended up with artificial arguments for another portion of illegal sanctions against Russia. This time [EP] decided to use the mythical militarization of Azov, as well as to talk about allegedly illegal construction Crimean Bridge, "- said Slutsky journalists on Thursday.
According to the deputy, "as for the charges of militarization of the Azov water area, the situation, to put it mildly, does not correspond to the one stated in the resolution." “Of course, it works for today's Kiev authorities and it can be done, it can be said, on the order of [President of Ukraine] Petro Poroshenko, who has already managed to thank Strasbourg for the adopted resolution. "- said the head of the committee.
Slutsky believes that "the European Parliament has long been turned into a familiar tool in the hands of Russophobes for holding a line on the blackening and marginalization of Russia in the European and information space to American tutors." "That is why our" strategic friends "in the Far West are so easy to use the EP to promote solutions that are far from objectivity. This shows that the European Parliament, like the power in Ukraine, is not an independent and frivolous organization," the politician emphasized.
