After Russia’s
delivery of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Russia, Syria allows
the resumption of the use of the low-profile fifth-generation F-22
Raptor fighters and fourth-generation F-16CJ Viper fighters for air
operations in the Syrian sky, writes The Drive.
“At
the beginning of the US military campaign in Syria, when it was unclear
how Assad (Syrian President Bashar Asad - comment for“ Tony.ru ”) could
respond, the US Air Force used F-22 and F-16CJ Vipers, designed to
suppress and destruction of enemy air defense "
On
the eve, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to Russian President
Vladimir Putin about the transfer of the S-300 system to Damascus. In total, Moscow sent 49 pieces of equipment to the SAR. Among other things, these are backlight locators, basic detection systems, control vehicles and four launchers.
According
to the head of the Russian defense ministry, it will take about three
months to train the Syrian military to operate the S-300 complexes. The formation of a unified air defense system in Syria is scheduled for completion by October 20.
Recall
that the supply of S-300 to Syria became a necessary measure after the
incident with the Syrian rocket of the Russian Il-20 aircraft shot down
over the Mediterranean. As a result of the tragedy, fifteen Russian servicemen were killed. The
Russian Defense Ministry blamed the death of the Russian crew of
Israeli pilots, who at that time launched an air strike on objects in
the SAR and, in fact, covered themselves with Russian aircraft.
