US wants to use Armenia as a red rag for Turkish bull

“The US is transferring its center of presence in the Transcaucasus from Georgia to Armenia,” said Russian political scientist Alexey Martynov, director of the International Institute of the Newest States, on the State Radio station Vesti FM on Nov. 3. According to him, the infrastructure, including the largest embassy in the post-Soviet space, is ready for this.
It was not by chance that the expert who recently visited the countries of the region on a visit to the US national security adviser John Bolton, in the capital of Armenia, voiced his main statements: on the sale of American weapons to Armenia and on the Karabakh issue, at the same time, he blessed future parliamentary elections, although by that time it was not yet known whether they would take place at all. He praised everyone for successful work and left. After that, the parliament successfully voted against Pashinyan, the procedure for its dissolution was launched, the corresponding decree was signed by Armenian President Armen Sargsyan. Elections are scheduled for December 9th. "

On November 4, in a telephone conversation, the EADaily correspondent asked Alexei Martynov to elaborate on his concerns regarding the transfer of the control center of the US Transcaucasian policy from Tbilisi to Yerevan.
The expert, in particular, noted that he considers Bolton’s warnings to Yerevan regarding the prospects for the development of the situation around Iran to be a smoke screen. “Bolton’s negotiations with the“ new government ”of Armenia regarding the Karabakh problem, the conflict with Azerbaijan and the closed border with Turkey did not receive public announcement. The emphasis of American politics is indeed shifting from Georgia to Armenia - with a long-range view of Turkey. Americans can not have a significant impact on neutral Azerbaijan through Georgia. And through Armenia - they can. And this, in turn, will allow them to increase pressure on both Turkey and Russia. This is dangerous and unpredictable for Armenia and the Armenian people - to be used in a dark, like a red rag for a bull against Azerbaijan and Turkey, ”said Alexey Martynov.

“At the same time, Azerbaijan itself is put in very difficult conditions. On the one hand, Pashinyan is ruining the current format of negotiations on Karabakh, on the other, he has repeatedly threatened his Azerbaijani counterpart with “shifting revolutionary activity” to the east. Obviously, in this complex task, Pashinyan is counting on the support of his traditional partners - Western government funds and the media. This is his specialty! But Bolton would give him all this. Or promise to provide. This is the effect of the “red rag for the bull”. Azerbaijan is drawn to the Karabakh fire, and Armenians, through their lush mustaches, are invited to forget who is sitting in their rear. And who is it? This is Turkey, the border with which has been blocked by the Turks for more than twenty years, but, according to Bolton, it will “almost certainly open.” Highly Likely! This is about the border that is guarded by Russian border guards. And where are they? Together with the base to withdraw? This issue, after the US-sponsored early parliamentary elections and the formation of the new parliament of Armenia, will be one of the main issues on the agenda of, say, the same Sasna Tsrer party, the Armenian equivalent of the Right Sector, designed for Pashinyan’s internal needs, ”he said.
“It is obvious that the similar tasks set by the Americans to Pashiyan, and not the impact of low-powered Armenia on turned into a bogeyman of Iran, will never be voiced out loud. It is obvious that the people do not know this reverse side of the revolution, but it ensures the legitimacy of Pashinyan, rejoicing at least that the seemingly ugly manifestations of the power of oligarchs and people with nicknames seem to be the end. But has it come? Yes, some odious personalities have moved away from the administrative resource, but others remain in business - only in a veiled mode, ”summarized Alexey Martynov, director of the International Institute of the Newest States.
