The
German government has decided to disclose a strategic oil reserve for
the supply of several federal lands with oil products. The
need for such a move appeared because of the dry summer season, because
of which the water level in the main river of the Federal Republic of
Germany - the Rhine - fell, Deutsche Welle reports.
This year, tankers and oil tankers either have to reduce fuel loading, or cannot go down the river at all. It
is noted that in the 40 years of its existence, a strategic reserve of
crude oil and petroleum products in Germany was opened only three times.
The strategic stock of the country is about 24 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products. The reserve is needed to ensure the operation of road and air transport for up to 90 days. In addition to this, it is used as raw material for chemical production.
As reported by the Ministry of Economics of Germany, this measure is preventive. It will affect only a few federal states. According to the ministry, there is no talk of a global crisis.
