The Su-27UB
fighter that crashed on October 16 in the Vinnitsa region of Ukraine
belonged to the 831st tactical aviation brigade from Mirgorod, Poltava
region.
The press service of the Air Force
of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this in her Facebook account,
stressing that the Su-27UB crashed around 5:00 pm in a field near the
village of Ulanov.
The
fighter flew into the air from the airfield at Starokonstantinov to
carry out combat training in the framework of the Pure Sky 2018 military
exercises.
It
is noted that one of the two dead pilots was Colonel Ivan Petrenko -
the head of aviation of the Vostok air command of the air forces of the
armed forces of Ukraine. It
is emphasized that the pilot was prepared to conduct combat operations
as an instructor in full course of combat training day and night in
adverse weather conditions.
The press service promised to provide information about the identity of the second victim later.
Earlier,
the Ukrainian prosecutor's office reported that the second pilot was a
soldier of the US National Guard, but then deleted this information.
In turn, the US Air Force confirmed: one of the dead pilots is a soldier of the American National Guard. Additional information was demanded from Ukraine and promised to conduct an investigation without delay.
