The USS Gunston Hall landing ship docking ship was damaged during a storm in the Norwegian Sea. His
crew needed medical assistance, but there were no serious injuries -
after treatment, the injured sailors returned to service.
Gunston Hall is
part of the amphibious assault force of the American fleet, which came
to Norway to participate in the large-scale NATO exercises Trident
Juncture. In particular, the landing of troops on
boats from Gunston Hall on the coast of Iceland was supposed to precede
the start of maneuvers, but because of the accident, the performance of
American marines was canceled, writes The Drive.
A dock ship headed for the Icelandic coast fell into a violent storm. Due
to heavy pitching, the 140-tonnage assault boat LCU 1610 in its hold
fell from the bindings and damaged the ship’s communications. Instead
of landing Gunston Hall, accompanied by the landing craft, the New York
ship went to the port of Reykjavik to assess the damage.
Meanwhile
The HAMVEE army jeep parachuted directly to a farm near Cameron in North Carolina. During
the tests of the landing system, the car was dropped from the military
transport C-17 before the aircraft entered the landing zone. No harm done.
