US plans to cut down protected forests in Poland to expand military base

The US military plans to cut down trees in Poland on an area of 38 hectares to build new facilities on the territory of the Povidz aviation base.
The Polish authorities specifically lifted the ban on the destruction of bird nests, since, in their opinion, “public safety”, for which supposedly the new complex is being built, is much more important than the protection of rare birds. Why Poland is ready to go to the destruction of its natural resources for the sake of "expanding the capabilities of the US Armed Forces in Europe"

The joint project of Poland and the United States to expand the military base Povidz is part of the European Reinsurance Initiative (European Reassurance Initiative), which was launched in 2014 by the administration of former US President Barack Obama after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening the presence of the United States Armed Forces in Europe as a “counter to provocative armed actions of Russia in Ukraine”, as well as helping countries that are potentially exposed to “Russian threat”.
Earlier, during a September visit to the US, Polish leader Andrzej Duda confirmed Poland’s willingness to pay more than $ 2 billion to deploy another American military base on its territory. According to Duda, such measures are capable of "deterring any potential aggressor."
In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry notes that the creation of a US base in Poland will be considered a violation of the fundamental Russia-NATO act.
“It all depends on the size of the contingent. But this can be a very serious violation of the fundamental ones (the fundamental act of Russia - NATO. - RT). So far, no decisions have been made, but we are warning both the alliance, and the United States, and Poland, ”said Andrei Kelin, director of the department of pan-European cooperation at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that the deployment of the US base in Poland would entail counter-actions from Russia.
